Romack Downey Go Into Best Skirmish At Amateur Tourney
In Charlotte, Barbara Romack and Mary Ann Downey set up a potential No. 1 second-round pairing in the Women's National Amateur Golf Championship after posting easy first-round wins. Both shot 36 on the front nine at Myers Park while overcoming nerves and the cold. The field saw teens and veterans shine as Naomi Venable and Grace DeMoss Staith were upset, and Margie Lindsay, Barbara McIntire, and other top players advanced.
