Denver August 23 Up Two officers and seven enlisted men perished when a bomb laden two motor B 18 bomber crashed during a routine flight in a storm over the air corps technical school area. The wreckage lay on the bombing range about 45 miles east of Denver. Investigators said the crash occurred during a severe hail and electrical storm, possibly due to lightning or a down draft. The plane carried about 2000 pounds of bombs. The crew included pilot Second Lieutenant Wilbur A Champagne and co pilot Second Lieutenant Robert P Schmidtchen among others. The crash scene lay six miles east and four miles south of Watkins Colorado with hail still on the ground. The sister ship had lost sight of the craft in thick weather.
