Tuesday social calendar lists golf matches at the country club and a shower for Miss Helen Beth Bigsby hosted by Miss Lia Jeanne Miller and guests at Colonial Tea Room. Mrs Ed Klein and Miss Frances Carter to attend luncheon.
The engagement of Frances Lyman to Walter Phillip Berg is announced by Mr. and Mrs. G. Lyman of Wichita. The couple plan a September wedding at First Presbyterian Church with limited attendance. Berg works in the Wichita Ediphone office. Lyman graduated in Lawrence.
Mrs James Sanders led a sewing lesson as plans for camps and Achievement Day were discussed. The club will meet September 16 with Mrs Roy Harrell. A Sunday gathering at the August Ford home honored wedding anniversaries of the Ford and Ford families. A basket lunch followed. Relatives and friends from Cameron Topeka Ottawa and Wellsville attended. Lorainne Guild and Richard Ellsworth Burton announced their forthcoming fall wedding. Burton, KU alumnus, is a representative for R J Reynolds in Ottawa where they will reside.
Dr. and Mrs. F. C. Allen and children returned from an eastern vacation with stops in Anchorage and Charles Town and visits to Culver Military Academy. Various other Lawrence residents and guests are mentioned returning from trips to Estes Park, Colorado Springs, Chicago, Milwaukee, and more, plus illness updates and upcoming travel plans.
Midland residents report dinners hosted by the Husted family and visits from relatives in Oklahoma. Members attend Farm Bureau meetings with Edith Collins and others while the Jayhawk 4-H club gathers with Ruth and Danny Brune. New baby Ross William born to Otto Barton, and Os kaloosa picnic attended by Ruth Brune and friends. Bob Laptad surveys local farming trends for the Soil Conservation group.
Mrs Lucy Frantz of Kansas City and Mrs Nannie Creel Teck of California join Mrs Joe Kennedy and Mrs Mary Garvin of Lawrence for Thursday afternoon time with Mr and Mrs Charlie Sanders. North Dakota guests Ben Puckett family were supper guests of Roy Puckett Wednesday. Mrs John Banks called on cousin Mollie Arthur in North Lawrence Saturday morning. Mrs Arthur heads to Kansas City soon.
September plans include Miss Elizabeth Dunn leaving to teach near Wichita. The Valley Chapel Christian Endeavor Society hosted a wind up activity with a weiner roast at Windy Gulch lake in her honor. Several families marked anniversaries and weekend visits across Lawrence and Oskaloosa with quilters, reunions, and gatherings.
