Highway Collision Fatal To Tourist Near Lawrence
A Saturday night wreck on Highway 40 west of Lawrence killed Mrs. J C Gilmore forty four of Medicine Lodge Kansas. The Cadillac driven by Ray Dunakin Lawrence collided with the Chevrolet sport coupe carrying Gilmore, her son Harold Gilmore and others en route to Medicine Lodge. Mrs Gilmore died at Memorial hospital from pelvis and internal injuries and a broken arm while Harold Gilmore remained hospitalized with a scalp wound and bruises. Funeral services for Mrs Gilmore are planned in Medicine Lodge August 20.

The Matson liner Ventura radioed that all passengers officers and crew of the British steamer Tahiti are safe after the Tahiti sank off Rarotonga. The Ventura will take island passengers to Pago Pago then on to San Francisco for landing of American and European travelers.
