Kansas Attorney General Carla Stovall praises a federal FTC rule aiding her office to crack down on deceptive telemarketing. The regulation requires clear price and quality disclosures and consumer authorization before charging. Her division handles about 1000 telemarketing complaints yearly.
The inaugural festivities committee for Gov. Bill Graves raised little money in its last quarter, with a single $680 donation from the NRA and a $344 double-payment refund. From election through February it amassed $355,610, ending with $5,212 to be donated to the adjutant general’s office to cover inauguration costs.
A Mulvane man, Shane Martin, 25, died while rewiring a light post in rural Valley Center along Interstate 135. Authorities say another worker pulled him from the live wire as he trembled, and Martin died at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.
Salina District sent 3000 parent surveys on its mission but half lacked the mission statement. The district will resend the surveys Wednesday and absorb about $90 in postal fees. J W Wire Reports.
