New energy saving bulb aims to cut wattage by sixty percent
The Duro-Test Corp of North Bergen New Jersey announced a new light bulb that could cut electricity use by about 60 percent with no loss of light. It will cost roughly ten times current bulbs but longer life and lower operating costs are expected to offset the higher price. The bulb uses a solar energy coating developed at MIT in 1974 inside the bulb to reflect infrared back to the filament.

Haven doctor arraigned on rape charge in office
Dr Marcie Duffles Andrade 48 of Haven Kansas was arraigned Tuesday on a rape charge connected to an exam of a 22 year old Mount Hope woman who sought a pregnancy test. Authorities say the incident occurred at the Haven clinic August 9 after dismissing a nurse on duty. Bond set at 10000. preliminary hearing scheduled for August 26. Perry man alters story after roadside shooting
Lenie J. Davis, 21, of Perry, was shot in the side and hospitalized in Lawrence after an incident Monday night. He told investigators a passing car fired at him while he changed a tire, but later said his father Arthur Davis shot him in self defense at their home after an alcohol fueled argument. The Jefferson County attorney has not yet reviewed the family statements and no charges have been announced.

July housing starts rise signals healthier year
