Prairie Park Nature Center to receive 71 thousand grant
Prairie Park Nature Center will receive a 71000 Open Space grant from the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council to restore shoreline habitat at Mary's Lake, expand a fishing dock, update 25 signs, add more canoes, and support conservation programs. The project partners include Haskell Indian Nations University and the Kansas Biological Survey with internships for Haskell students. Completion is targeted by May 2026.

Contractor electrocuted near power line in Douglas County
A contractor was electrocuted Wednesday afternoon while working in a bucket near a power line in the 1400 block of East 920 Road. A co worker heard a loud pop at 1 13 p m and found him unresponsive. Deputies and medics attempted life saving measures before he was taken to a hospital. No further details were released.

Impaired driving victims and officers share cautions in KC event
