The USS Command announced the North Vietnamese shot down a U.S. Navy reconnaissance plane near the Chinese border. the two man crew of the RASC Vigilante was listed as missing. This marks the 642nd U.S. warplane lost over the North in the Vietnam war as raids near Lang Son and other targets continued.

Night of thefts break-ins and assault reported to police
Police reported several incidents including thefts from vehicles and homes, property damage, and an assault. Wayne Gaut said five shirts and two pairs of pants worth 60 were taken from a vehicle on Vermont Avenue between 2 pm and 6 pm Saturday. Tim Nelick reported rocks were thrown at a car near 4th and Ind on Monday, injuring a 13 year old. A break-in at the Professional Building on Mass Street was discovered Sunday night with no items missing.

Perry Station at Risk as UP Plans Closure
The Perry community, about 13 miles NW of Lawrence in Jefferson County, could lose direct Union Pacific passenger and freight service. Medical Ride Home After Guatemala Trip
Mrs. Nicolay, a medical assistant in Lawrence, was cut off in a Guatemalan mountain village. Ham radio operators coordinated her escape and she reached Kansas 24 hours later just in time for her brother’s funeral.

Couple's Bodies Found In Topeka House
Police found two bodies in a southeast Topeka residence after a call reporting trouble. Mary A. Bacigalupi, 53, was found in the living room and Harvey Smith, 58, in the kitchen. both had been shot. A .22 pistol lay near Smith. Coroner tentatively calls it a murder suicide.
