A Boston to Nova Scotia bus with 36 passengers rolled off Route 1 at Nobleboro Maine. A 62 year old woman Rachel Wilbur of Boston died at a hospital. Driver Eugene McNally 38 of Hampden was badly injured and paralyzed below the waist. The bus toppled over a guardrail into a gully and did not catch fire. The crash followed a collision after attempting to pass James Tripp 71 of New Bedford Mass whose car struck another auto driven by Henry Lutter of Waldoboro.

Nazi Spy Gimpel Deported From United States
Erich Gimpel, one of two World War I Nazi spies who entered the U S from a German sub, is deported to Germany under proceedings begun in 1947. He is 46 and was moved from Atlanta Federal Prison to New York and aboard the Italia. His partner William Colepaugh, 37, remains at Leavenworth. They were captured in New York in December 1944 after landing on the Maine coast. They spent part of their funds on a short wave transmitter to relay information to Germany.

Harry Parkhurst 56 of Topeka died Friday in a Topeka hospital. He was born February 1, 1899 in Lawrence and lived most of his life in Topeka.
