Wunsch Calls for Separate Kansas Parole Board
Kansas State Senator Paull Wunsch told a Rotary audience that wealthy relatives help inmates leave the state penitentiary and reformatories when not warranted. He urged a separate state parole board with safeguards to judge all parole requests and control transfers between facilities, arguing current powers lie with the governor via the state penal board. Wunsch praised the Hutchinson State Reformatory but noted wage and education shortages, and he described the Women’s Farm as less problematic than some press portrayals. His committee plans to inspect other prisons and invite penal authorities to Kansas for recommendations.
