Secretary Wallace announced the corn marketing quotas referendum will be delayed pending November production data. The August crop forecast shows 2,566,221,000 bushels with a 320,000,000 bushel carryover, short of the excessive supply trigger by 27,000,000.
In Uniontown Pennsylvania a clerical mistake at the WPA led to seven year old Richard Malone receiving a 6.54 dollar check for a road laborer job on a WPA project. The check was revoked and Richard’s 20 year old brother Albert was placed on the same project while the Malone family says they were removed from relief rolls for the boy’s supposed support. The district WPA director, Lyell L. Buttermore, is investigating who reported for work under the boy’s name and the family shows a termination certificate as evidence of the child’s supposed employment.
In San Francisco on August 11, leaders of the Bartenders International League and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union remained in the same hotel to coordinate conventions. Both groups set headquarters there and the W C T U prepared details of its militant anti liquor program approved at the final session yesterday.
