Senior housing plan moves forward despite resident objections
Douglas County Commission approved moving the two acre parcel near the United Way building to Tenants to Homeowners to develop a rental 55 and up community. Neighbors led by Jean Affalter voiced concerns about overpopulation traffic and utility strain and submitted a 57 name petition. City will handle rezoning and infrastructure while the county maintains land ownership and green space nearby. The budget received unanimous approval and the burn ban was extended to at least the next meeting.

Baldwin City dinner car project eyed as tourism draw
The cost to move the unit to Baldwin City is set at 220000 with 25000 still needed. Mayor Ken Wagner says city aid would be unprecedented in this uncharted effort to attract a company. The dinner car restaurant draws 8000 to 9000 riders annually to Fremont from a 150 mile radius and could boost city revenue with 6000 visitors. It operates year round with 15 part time workers.
