Proposal Keeps Lawrence SRS Office Open With Local Payments

After community pressure, Gov Brownback’s administration offered a deal to keep the Lawrence state welfare office open through September 2013. The city and county would each pay 112,500 in January 2012 and 112,500 in January 2013, totaling 450,000, as SRS trims costs. SRS Secretary Robert Siedlecki Jr says continued operation depends on economic conditions, with a good faith funding effort planned for future years. Public hearings and votes were planned with Douglas County officials and Lawrence leadership.

Charges dismissed against KU basketball player Thomas Robinson

The city prosecutor dismissed a misdemeanor battery charge against Kansas University basketball player Thomas Robinson tied to an April alleged altercation at a Lawrence nightclub. Separately a hacking collective attacked multiple law enforcement sites across several states, including Kansas, exposing benign to sensitive data such as credit card numbers.
