Nazis Claim 34 British Planes and 12 Ships Sunk

Berlin reports a special bulletin stating 34 British planes were shot down and 12 ships totaling 55 000 tons sunk today. A tanker of 8000 tons and two steamers totaling 9000 tons were sunk by speedboats last night. Twenty nine more British planes were shot down in other Channel actions.

RFC to finance six new aircraft plants under defense push

Escape from Dwight reformatory by two inmates

Elea Jarman and Mary Foster escaped from the Dwight women’s reformatory where they were serving sentences for murder and larceny. Jarman had a 199 year sentence begun in 1933 for murdering Gustave Hoeh, whose accomplice George Dale was electrocuted. Foster had a one to ten year term for larceny and was sentenced from Cook County in 1939.
