An eye witness recounts how sidewalks rose and glass rain fell after a subway explosion on 28th Street near Fourth Avenue. In Buenos Aires on Aug 6 AP reports violence across interior Argentina during a general strike in favor of Sacca and Vanzetti. Despatches from Pergamino say a 54 explosive device damaged a Fohtile agency, with another bomb on the railroad causing no damage. Demonstrators roamed streets closing businesses and stoning those who refused. the Pergamino Banco Espanol branch was among targets.
In Moscow and across the Soviet Union protests mount against the Massachusetts executions. One hundred seventy meetings with about 100,000 workers reportedly occurred yesterday and last night. A central protest is planned for this evening at the Kremlin Recreation Gardens.
Lawrence men curious about learning to fly are invited to an August Monday 8 p.m. meeting in Chamber of Commerce rooms to form a flying club purchase a plane and receive instruction. C M Bontreger of Kansas Electric Power Co will speak if plans advance.
An industrious sparrow at the Neosho plant east of Parsons caused a flash over that cut electricity to Parsons Pittsburg and Cherryvale, followed two weeks earlier by a snake entangling with wires at the same plant. Superintendent E B Edwards reported the incidents, noting the wider impact in the earlier outage.
Rapid City August 6 AP reports President Coolidge shows no concern about post White House work. He has indicated no intent to run in 1928 and says employment opportunities have always found him and will likely do so after March 4, 1929. The White House summer stay notes he will not call a conference on armament limits.
San Francisco Aug 6 A P Senator Burton Wheeler of Montana arrived aboard the army transport Thomas from the Orient and Philippines and attacked Governor General Leonard Wood's Philippine administration. He said Wood stirs unfriendliness among Filipinos toward Americans, notes friction with the administration, mentions foreclosure like debt to the Philippine National Bank, and criticizes other administration policies.
In Winfield Kansas a motor car carrying five women and three men was struck by Santa Fe train No 5 at a grade crossing. Edna Pierce and Lucille Tanner, both of Winfield, died of head injuries. Peart, Clara Markle, and Harold McFarland were unconscious. H V Etarton and Mr and Mrs Fred Putnam were slightly injured. The group were en route to Oxford Kansas.
Baldwin postmaster and editor Maurice C. Markahm of the Baldwin Ledger chose travel by rail rather than auto. He left Kansas City to spend a month along the Pacific coast near Los Angeles. The report notes Lebouef death sentences sought in Franklin, La. arguments in the murder trial of James J. Lebouef.
Carl C. Muzzy 44 a Lawrence resident was struck and killed while walking along railroad tracks near the Union Pacific crossing west of Lawson station. His car was found undamaged nearby. Coroner H. T. Jones of Leavenworth County was notified and funeral services are planned for Maple Grove cemetery. He is survived by three brothers Rob Frank and Harry and one sister Mrs Grace Hodge.
Denver reports the state industrial commission opened an inquiry into suspected coal tieup in southern Colorado led by the IWOC organizers building a small membership. Chairman Annear said the United Mine Workers oppose a strike and a commissioner was sent to Walsenburg to verify the reports. The commission vows to prevent a strike in the southern fields.
Secretary of State Frank Yan released a statement noting Ryan may seek the Republican nomination for governor in 1928. Ryan said he is never a candidate for any particular office during an off year, and Kansans should not count him out of public service.
An appraisal filed in Sedgwick county probate court fixes the estate of George Theis Jr at 1,188,000. The Wichita capitalist and Arkansas Valley Interurban president was killed by a propeller plane in 1926. Most of the estate is real estate with many holdings. original estimates had valued the estate at 2,000,000.

William P McCracken assistant secretary of commerce in charge of aviation stated this today. Seminole oil field Oklahoma 24 hours ending Friday 7 am produced 501 840 barrels down 26 060 from week prior. Firemen Picnic set for August 13 Baldwin firemen and families plan annual picnic Monday August 15.
An order by Federal Judge W H Thomson directs the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan to show cause why they should not be enjoined from operating in Pennsylvania. A receiver is appointed over Klan property in the state. The order follows a suit by the Klan against five men, all of whom had been dismissed, whom the Klan alleged collected funds for the organization.
Prof. Paul B. Lawson of Kansas University entomology and assistant dean will lecture at the Union Service in Bone Park Sunday evening at 4. Prof. Kujoie Christy of the fine arts department will be soloist with Loyce Rockhold at the piano and offertory. Efforts to recover 11 year old George Hewes believed drowned in the Cottonwood River at Cottonwood Falls failed after an all night search. He was last seen fishing near a dam after being sent on an errand by his mother Mrs Hengy Hewes.
