Pvt. James J. Jensen twenty died after drowning Sunday at Crystal Lake near Manhattan. He had been stationed at Ft. Riley since December after a year in Vietnam. Jensen disappeared while swimming with friends and the body was recovered minutes later.

The Labor Department reports total employment rose by over 500000 to 79.6 million in July while unemployment reached 3.6 percent due to a larger labor force. Average earnings climbed to 3.03 per hour or 115.44 weekly. Manufacturing week stayed above 40 hours. Unemployment rose among whites to 3.2 percent and remained 6.4 percent for nonwhites. Robbery Stirs Youths Near Junction City Streets
At 9:45 a.m. Sunday Richard J. Pugh and cousin Wayne K. Pugh were stopped near 9th and N J Streets by three or four youths. Wayne was struck in the mouth and robbed of a pocket knife. Police report the assailants as five disturbers of fights, four thefts and one vandalism incident.
