Apollo 11 astronauts wrap up quarantine and plan honors

Three Apollo 11 astronauts finish quarantine meetings with spacecraft experts to wrap their lunar mission report. Scientists open lunar rock boxes and study moon dirt samples while Nixon praises the moon landing. Baldwin Family Victims Die In I-35 Truck Crash

Funeral services are set for Frank C. Dillard 47 his wife Margie 42 and their son David 14 of Baldwin after a brick truck crash on Interstate 35 in Johnson County. The trio died when a tire blew causing the truck to careen and burn near the 119th Street overpass. Survivors include several local relatives and four sons and six daughters.

Weekend city wrecks show no injuries in multiple crashes

Youths Named For Grooming Finals At Douglas County Fair

Four H youths in senior division and eight in junior division earned blue ribbons in the preliminary grooming contest. One winner in each division will be named best groomed boy at the Style Review Friday at the Douglas County 4 H fair. A girl in both divisions will also win a top place. Winners include Robert Bigsby Vinland Valley 4 H and Bob Russell Lone Star 4 H in senior school and dress categories, with Terry Cox Stull and others in junior divisions. Soldier Identified Drowned Ft. Riley Soldier

Pvt. James J. Jensen twenty died after drowning Sunday at Crystal Lake near Manhattan. He had been stationed at Ft. Riley since December after a year in Vietnam. Jensen disappeared while swimming with friends and the body was recovered minutes later.

Steady U.S. jobs gain as July unemployment nudges up

The Labor Department reports total employment rose by over 500000 to 79.6 million in July while unemployment reached 3.6 percent due to a larger labor force. Average earnings climbed to 3.03 per hour or 115.44 weekly. Manufacturing week stayed above 40 hours. Unemployment rose among whites to 3.2 percent and remained 6.4 percent for nonwhites. Men’s rate rose to 2.2 percent, women’s held at 3.7 percent, teens to 12.2 percent.

Robbery Stirs Youths Near Junction City Streets

At 9:45 a.m. Sunday Richard J. Pugh and cousin Wayne K. Pugh were stopped near 9th and N J Streets by three or four youths. Wayne was struck in the mouth and robbed of a pocket knife. Police report the assailants as five disturbers of fights, four thefts and one vandalism incident. James Scott posted bond in municipal court on disobeying a police officer after an incident on East 8th Street.

Budget Parley On Schools Is To Be Tonight

A public hearing on the 1969-70 Unified School District 497 budget opens at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Center. The budget totals $6,178,935.89, with a 5.36 mill levy decrease to 37.07 mills for the former District 60 and 31.7 mills for other taxpayers. Snake Hospitalized After College Fire

A 7 foot boa named Fred was overcome by smoke during a minor fire in the biology building at North Texas State University. The snake was taken to the university hospital and placed under an oxygen tent. officials say the reptile is resting comfortably and should be released soon.
