Man found guilty of second degree murder in Eudora bar shooting
Danny W. Queen, 37, of Eudora, was convicted by a Douglas County jury after an eight day trial in the 2017 shooting death of Bo Hopson outside a Eudora bar. Witnesses said Queen confronted an intoxicated man and fired after the man ignored an offer for a ride home. The gun jammed when Queen aimed at two others.

Sunflower farmers hope for rain at Grinter Farms
The Sunflower fields at Grinter Farms near U S 24 40 between Tonganoxie and Lawrence have suffered a rain drought. Kris Grinter told the Tonganoxie Business Association meeting that recent rain has helped sunflowers grow taller and healthier after a dry period.

Lawrence condo project abandoned by local developer
Local developer Bob Schumm has withdrawn plans for a five story mixed use Vermont Place condo project in downtown Lawrence due to insufficient purchaser interest. He now plans to pursue a non condo development approach, after previously proposing three condo floors in the building.
