The Philadelphia cruiser with President Roosevelt aboard left Charleston Navy Yard at 9 45 am for a South Atlantic fishing cruise. The destroyer Fanning followed as a 21 gun salute rang out. Destination unspecified but likely Virgin Islands with disembarkation in Charleston a week hence. Dr F C Allen of Kansas University spoke at a buffalo barbeque in Newton Kansas drawing 500 attendees.
The average of 60 stocks stood at 38.2 yesterday with no change from the prior reading. Market activity remained steady as investors watched key indices and sector performance.
Labor attorneys forecast three months to a year of bargaining and fact finding before a showdown if unions reject a 145 percent wage cut proposed by the railroads. Walter L. Griffith, a field agent for an insurance company and unwilling chauffeur for Pretty Boy Floyd and two other gangsters four years ago, was found dead in his bed in Clinton Missouri. He had been forced to drive the gangsters toward Kansas City after they stopped him on a highway while fleeing from Bolivar. He was released after dark.
Edward Tuck, the only American honorary citizen of France besides Woodrow Wilson, died in Monte Carlo at his villa La Turbie after a lingering lung illness. He was 95. Tuck arrived in Paris as vice consul under Abraham Lincoln and became a notable benefactor of France.

Several hundred University of Kansas students and parents attend the annual Parents Day banquet at 6 p m in the Memorial Union. Mrs Willard Greene and Chancellor Lindley lead the program with a reception beforehand and prizes announced by Geneve Landrith.
Des Moines April 30 Blond Freddie Wolcott Rice Institute sophomore ace set a Drake relay record by winning the 120 yard high hurdles in 14.2 seconds. He shaved two tenths from the late George Saling Iowa’s 1982 mark. The Missouri track squad Burrus Rucker Collins and Munski broke the four mile relay record in 17 34 7 eclipsing Indiana 1936. The final mile featured a duel between John Munski and Gregory Rice Notre Dame with Munski finishing in 4 14 5.
Cincinnati defeats Pittsburgh 4 2 at home on Peaches Davis five hit effort. Ival Goodman homered as the Reds snap a 29 game losing streak against the Pirates. Phillies Bees game featured two Grand Slams in 14 11 Boston victory. DiMaggio returns to active duty for the Yankees as Selkirk fades from lineup with McCarthy decision.
Kansas Varsity led Alumni 13 to 0 at halftime in Memorial Stadium on a sunny 86 degree day. About 500 spectators watched the spring finale as Ed Suagee and Steve Renko sparked early scoring, with Hall adding a second tally in the second period.

The May term of district court will be opened by Judge Hugh Means Monday morning at 9 o'clock. Five naturalization petitions will be heard and the parole docket will be called. The jury has been called for Tuesday morning, with civil trials to begin since no criminal cases are set.

Topeka reports unsettled Sunday as a western air mass moves in with showers likely early next week. Dodge City notes light winds with no rain in 24 hours. Temperatures rise to 85 to 90 degrees today and tomorrow, with highs near that range in the east and 80 to 85 in the west.
Director William A. Murphy announced a May 5-7 regional conference of unemployment compensation directors for Kansas Oklahoma Missouri and Arkansas to ready benefit payments next year. President Roosevelt named Myron C. Taylor as American representative on the international refugee committee. The White House said other representative American men would join the American refugee committee to aid Austrians and Germans exiled from their homelands. Taylor sails from New York and will tour Florence and other European cities while coordinating with European members on refugee relief. Twenty nine nations and four British dominions accepted Secretary Hull's invitation to assist through private funds.
