Housing authority director resigns after 1974 tenure

Doris Kaiser executive director of the Lawrence Local Housing Authority has unexpectedly resigned effective May 6 for personal reasons. The announcement came before a city commission meeting. Kaiser said she was relieved of duties yesterday and will receive severance pay. Kay Calvin, chairwoman, called the move surprising and provided few details. The authority runs Babcock Place and Edgewood Homes and faced attendance and low income housing concerns in a recent letter to the mayor and commissioners.

Lawrence High senior among 28 awarded National Merit Scholarships
