London April 26 UPi reports Britain's government boosted the income tax from 25 to 35 percent to help finance rearmament. Sir John Simon announced a 943,898,000 pound budget for 1938 39, with 10,000,000 pounds for civil estimates and new measures to curb tax dodging. The budget includes higher tea and oil duties and a special exemption for 2,000,000 small taxpayers. A secret stockpiling of wheat sugar and whale oil was disclosed to guard against war time shortages. A new treaty with Ireland signals closer defense ties and talks on military cooperation are expected.
