Lawrence traffic unit boosts tickets and safety gains
Lawrence police say a dedicated traffic unit started in March 2003 has driven a rise in speeding and red light tickets, with a 22 percent drop in injury accidents and a 25 percent drop in noninjury crashes in 2003. City may fund 2006 operations after a $2.2 million federal grant ends.
