In Xenia Ohio a 31 year old assistant psychologist Kermit Thomas was critically wounded when Herman Oxford 61 opened fire at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home. Oxford then killed himself as Mrs Iva Williams a 48 year old widow was held at gunpoint and survived.

At Kansas University Engineering Exposition the Electrical Engineering Department earned top honors for its Sound and Color exhibit, winning best electrical display and the Sigma Tau best overall display.
