President Directs Funston to Cease Public Discussions
Washington April 23. By order of the president General Funston has been directed to cease further public discussion of public questions. A letter from Acting Secretary of War Sanger to Funston complains of remarks linking him to criticism of Senator Hoar and a Boston Middlesex club banquet leave was denied. Funston said his future public appearances would avoid Philippines topics and claimed garbled speeches. He deferred the Boston appearance and awaited further word from the president.
