Housing starts plunge 11 percent in March shocks Fed policy
Housing construction fell 11.2 percent from February to March, the Commerce Department reported. Builders began new homes at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.60 million, marking the steepest one month drop since January 1994, with multi family units driving the decline. Economists expect the slowdown not to deter the Fed from further rate hikes to curb inflation.
