Patricia Hearst plans a no contest plea to state armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in a 1974 Glewood sporting goods store shooting. A plea arrangement would drop nine other charges while Hearst remains on bail awaiting sentencing.
House Speaker John Carlin expresses dismay at Gov. Bennett's veto of the income tax exemption bill and predicts an override. He notes the House passed the measure 105-18 and the Senate 25-15, with ongoing efforts led by Sen. John Simpson to push a override.

Lawrence officials attend the Big Eight Cities Conference in Norman Oklahoma causing the Tuesday city commission meeting to be cancelled. The commission will reconvene at its regular time on April 26.
Police say vandalism caused extensive damage to nine fireplugs and multiple vehicles along a Lawrence to DeSoto path. Juveniles were questioned with no charges noted. Reports show 11 damages in Eudora and five in Lawrence, with no repair estimates available.
The Elizabeth M. Watkins Community Museum is close to hiring a replacement for Arthur Townsend. Trustees extended Townsend’s resignation to May 1 and expect a final offer decision today. Kansas Construction Co. won a bid to replace steps and a door at the Massachusetts Street entrance, with work starting when weather permits.
Robert Yost a 14 year old representing Osborne County won the Douglas County Spelling Bee with the word coneladt meaning control of electromagnetic radiation. Toni Casagrande an eighth grader from Central Junior High placed 19th amid 94 contestants. Nina Stevens an eighth grader from Petterson County exited on fraudulent. Casagrande previously won the Douglas County title March 26 in Oskaloosa.
Tonganoxie resident Forest Gouge received a building permit from city officials to add a garage and an attached accessory structure to his home at 301 S. Green. Gouge had urged the removal of city clerk Harriet Hughes over zoning interpretations, but the planning board approved the plan and Gouge said he would begin construction soon, with no immediate action planned against the clerk.
The Journal- World notes a typographical error in the Saturday listing of Kan sas University faculty promotions. Anthony M Marino was promoted to associate professor of economics with tenure. the name was misspelled in print.
Mike Beahon president of Lawrence Jaycees elected director of Region III Jaycees at the annual meeting. He will serve a one year term presiding over 11 counties with 46 Jaycee chapters. Beahon also named one of four outstanding regional presidents. convention drew about 200 Jaycees and wives. He is assistant manager of the Kansas Union Bookstore and has held multiple Jaycee posts in Missouri and Kansas.
The Senate dropped plans to take up President Carter's stimulus tax bill as he abandoned the $50 rebate proposal. Senate aides said discussions focus on salvaging portions of the bill, with energy policy and tax relief continuing as options.
Douglas County commissioners reviewed a first quarter nursing home finance report and found Valleyview Care Home in good financial health after county ownership began. Administrator Kathy Smith reported expenses of 78,906 versus 82,972.50 budgeted and total income of 65,870.15 plus 16,290 in Medicaid projections, totaling 82,160.15.

The incident reportedly occurred March 30 with several alleged assailants linked to varsity football. Lincoln Neb Dr Ronald Roskens wins unanimous Board of Regents approval as permanent president of the University of Nebraska system after serving as interim.
President Carter plans to stop funding for 15 water projects, cut funding for five more, review two, and fully fund eight as part of a plan to curb dam building. The moves could save about 120 million in fiscal 1978, with roughly 109 million from funding halts and the rest from partial cuts.
Mozart’s comic opera Cosi fan Tutte closes the KU Theatre season with performances at 8 p.m. Friday through Saturday and April 29 30. Dramatic director Tom Rea and musical director George Lawner lead, with Robin Maas as assistant director and stage manager. The plot follows a wager between two lovers and a trio of disguises leading to a critique of courtship and marriage.
