Kansas University elects Hannah Bolton as student body president

KUnited candidate Hannah Bolton a junior from St Libory Nebraska and running mate Brandon Woodard a junior from Topeka won 84.5 percent of the vote in Student Senate elections at KUJH TV totals announced Thursday evening. Bolton cited a push for grading consistency and Woodard for a Spanish minor as top priorities for the coming year.

Man arrested for driving into residence on Tennessee Street

Kansas University student Mitchell Ellis Friesen, 21, was arrested on DUI and reckless driving charges after crashing into a residence on Tennessee Street about 11:50 p.m. Police said he appeared intoxicated. He posted $500 bond and faces an April 25 court appearance as prosecutors decide on formal charges.

Convicted murderer seeks new trial in Lawrence case

Christopher Belone, convicted in 2006 for beating death of his girlfriend Linda Begay in Lawrence, asked Kansas Supreme Court for a new trial citing major errors in the first trial. Assistant DA Eve Kemple argued the jury would have reached the same verdict. The court heard oral arguments and took the matter under advisement. Belone was sentenced to nearly 49 years.
