In Topeka the Senate approved a conference committee version of a bill to establish a seven member Kansas Court of Appeals to sit between district courts and the state Supreme Court with judges selected nonpartisan and retention votes every four years The measure also moves forward other bills including highway construction rules and a change in the Pooled Money Investment Board while debate over conflict of interest provisions continues. County seeks return of funds from Douglas County welfare fund
The Kansas Attorney General renews effort to force Douglas County to transfer 130 030 54 from the general fund back to the welfare fund or to the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. A prior petition was dismissed by District Court Judge Frank Gray for lack of a grantable claim.
