Uber buys Jump to launch dockless bike sharing
Uber announces it will acquire Jump to enter the dockless bike market. Jump operates 12 000 bikes in 40 cities across six countries, with electric bikes aimed at urban mobility. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says the move integrates multiple transport modes within the app to reduce car ownership. Jump’s Ryan Rzepecki says the brand will stay and cities will stay as partners.
