Justice Matters proposes 3.5 mill levy alternative to campus plan
Leaders from Justice Matters said Monday they will launch a legally binding petition to place on the November ballot an alternative to Douglas County's $11 million behavioral health campus. The plan would fund a crisis center with a 3.5 mill levy, using 2017 assessments to estimate about $4.2 million annually, sunset in 10 years unless renewed. A $70.43 yearly increase is projected for a $175,000 home under a 35 mill levy. The group frames this as an alternative to a separate 0.5 percent sales tax proposal expected to raise about $9.8 million per year for a $44 million project.
