Lawrence man pleads guilty to indecent solicitation of a child
A 38 year old Lawrence man Timothy L Turner pleaded guilty Monday to indecent solicitation of a child in a case from September. The plea dropped aggravated indecent liberties charges. A 15 year old girl testified about a September 9 encounter at a south Lawrence house. She escaped from a women’s shelter with a friend and met Turner in downtown LAWRENCE. She learned he was older than she thought and later told shelter staff she was raped. The case was prosecuted by Heather Jones. Sentencing is set for April 30 before Judge Sally Pokorny.

Kansas military school requests dismissal of abuse suit
St. John’s Military School in Kansas seeks to dismiss or move to arbitration the abuse lawsuit filed by six former cadets and a former adult cadet. The school argues the alleged abuse did not occur or was not known by officials, while plaintiffs claim “Disciplinarians” beat and humiliated students with incidents including broken legs, facial injuries, and a Facebook photo. The 6-12 grade boarding school, which charges about 30000 annually, denies abuse culture, notes anti hazing pledges, and says investigations found no merit. The suit also names the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas.
