Cohen Tightens Gay in the Military Policy and Guidelines
Defense Secretary William Cohen reiterated the don't ask don t tell policy and ordered clearer guidelines to prevent pursuit and harassment of homosexuals in the armed forces. A Defense Department report shows discharges for homosexuality rising from 850 in 1996 to 997 in 1997, with most cases involving early in service personnel and many making a homosexual declaration.
