Saigon Rocket Attacks Hit Northern Suburbs. Casualties Reported

Five rocket and mortar rounds struck Gia Dinh and two nearby hamlets on Saigon's northern outskirts injuring several, including an army officer and his family. In the delta area 40 miles northwest, U S Senate member Sen. Tower watched heavy fighting as 33 North Vietnamese were found dead with several weapons. Three U S soldiers were killed and seven wounded.

Group Revives Junior College Scholarship Bill in Kansas

TOPEKA AP The Kansas House Education Committee revived a junior college scholarship bill and a tuition bill, adding amendments into a third bill and recommending passage. One amendment would end the ban on using gate receipts from junior college events for athletic scholarships. Another would prevent out of state students at Kansas junior colleges from paying higher tuition than Kansas state colleges. Rep. Bert Chaney said Friday’s vote to kill the amendments occurred with several supporters absent.

ABM and chemical welfare program discussion

A program on the antiballistic missile system and chemical and biological warfare will be held at 8 p.m. in South Park Recreation Center. Docking Seeks HUD Grant for Kansas Housing Study

Gov. Robert Docking announced a $15,000 HUD grant request, to be matched by $7,000 state funds, for a Kansas housing study to plan adequate housing in the 1970s. If approved, the study by the Kansas Department of Economic Development would begin this summer, examining land costs, mortgage practices, financing, and infrastructure needs.

Greensburg freshman John Redwine at Kansas University uses a 1951 Cadillac hearse for campouts and fraternity pranks. Described as an all purpose car its exterior is maroon and interior remains velvet. The hearse hosts cots a foot locker and various items while serving as a dating draw and gymkhana novelty.

Israel and Arabs clash as rockets hit Aqaba and Elath

Israeli and Arab forces traded fire across the Gulf of Aqaba and Suez Canal. Israel said rockets from Aqaba hit Elath and that its planes struck back in Jordan. Al Fatah claimed first strike and heavy retaliation. Casualties included eight civilians in Aqaba and 13 injured in Elath. Dayan blamed Jordan and the Arab Legion for the attacks.

Chilocco Officials Put On Detail During Brutality Probe

Chilocco Indian School superintendent Dr. Leon Wall and principal Clarence Winston were removed from their posts and reassigned to area offices as the Bureau of Indian Affairs investigates alleged student brutality. Gordon Gunderson will run the school temporarily while the inquiry proceeds.

Bond posted in Douglas County for family mistreatment case

A 33 year old Lawrence resident posted 4500 bond to face Douglas County Court on family mistreatment and related charges connected to a Saturday arrest. The complaint cites a 9 year old girl as the child of the involved parties. A preliminary hearing date is not yet set.

Three Boys Wash Cars After Egg Tossing Spree

Lawr ence police report three youths aged 12 14 and 15 washed egg stained vehicles on Monday evening after residents complained of egg throwing at 7th and Conn. Srs. The boys’ cleaning saved owners time and effort. Also reported were thefts and vandalism including a broken car window a purse theft a motorcycle theft and a scuba tank missing from 1605 W 9th St.
