Kansas City area VA vocational rehabilitation chief Dr. Mehus said at Kansas University yesterday that one of every six Korean veterans has used the Korean GI Bill now 18 months old. He noted total veterans at KU is 676 from a peak of 8,500, and that in 1948 49 about 192 000 of 277 000 trainees were in colleges and universities. He added about 30 percent are in schools below college level or in on the job training and that the nation’s total Korean war veteran count is about 2 million. The Census Bureau reports 1951 income for female veterans aged 25 to 34 averaged about $500 more than nonveterans, attributed to higher education.
