Regina Carter weaves African roots into jazz on Reverse Thread
Jazz violinist Regina Carter brings her African folk inspired album to the Lied Center at 7:30 pm Friday. The MacArthur Fellow from Detroit discusses discovering roots, collaboration with African sounds, and translating tradition into jazz while highlighting connections across Africa and beyond.

Guitar Lerner describes the 14 minute film about echoes inside the old guitar and the culture it carries from Eastern Europe. The story follows Lerner and co creator Greg Allen as well as actress Stephanie Zuluaga in a tale of an identity lost and roots rediscovered in American life. The production, shot mainly in Lawrence Kansas, includes locations such as The Bottleneck and Mass Street Music and plans for festivals plus a Spanish version. Maria Irigonega ray, who inspired the project, died last month in Miami.
