Lawrence school tax vote tight as canvass awaits results
Lawrence officials endorsed a local-option budget measure with a 1 percent property tax increase worth about 679000 dollars. Early unofficial totals showed 3783 yes to 3730 no with 74 provisional ballots pending until Friday canvass. School board President said the proposal would cost about 14 dollars more per year for a 200000 dollar home. Bruce Passman described the sentiment as guardedly optimistic.
