Miss Marcella Howland Dies After Illness on Sabbath
Miss Marcella Howland, daughter of Lawrence’s Unitarian pastor, died at dawn after a ten day illness from intermittent fever with bowel trouble. Educated at local schools and Bryn Mawr, she aided her father in pastoral duties, held roles in Ladies Aid, Waily Club, and Woman’s Suffrage circles, and was noted for her gentleness and service. Her funeral at Oak Hill was led by Rev. J. K. Miller and Rev. W. W. Ayres, with burial following in the family plot.

Mrs Mary E Wagstaff died at 1 15 pm Tuesday after five weeks of illness with alternating hope and fear among mourners. Born in Clarksville Tennessee in 1848 she married Richard Wagstaff in 1865 and lived in Monmouth Illinois Kansas City Missouri before moving to Lawrence fifteen years ago. Survived by husband six children Harry Robert Thomas Charles Mabel Baseie and others plus a sister Mrs Dorrin of Clarksville. The community mourns a patient faithful wife and mother.

Man with throat wounds found near Lawrence
A man about 38 years old was found with two deep throat wounds by Newt Cox near the Kennedy farm six miles southwest of Lawrence. He was taken to the county jail and examined by Dr Phillips who said the wounds were not necessarily fatal. The injured man, who identified himself as John Kelly of Garnett, stated he was tired of life.

Lawrence businessmen crowded the Commercial Club rooms Tuesday to hear a Pullman Co operative Club committee. They demand at least eighty acres and capital to build a works and buy raw materials, estimated not less than $30,000. Accidental Shooting Leaves William Fox Wounded
William Fox of Douglas County, about thirty five, living two miles north of town, was shot in the back when his wife discharged a target rifle while he examined it. The ball passed through his right lung and lodged under the skin in front. He is in critical condition. Dr N Simmons treated him. recovery prospects are slight. Fox recently moved to the county and is described as wealthy with a wife and two children.
