Judge Eneres lauds reform era praising clean elections and civil service changes under the current administration. He cites savings in federal spending and lands restores, condemns liquor interests and political prosecutions, and urges a fair vote in November. An older Kansas soldier endorses Charles Robinson for national leadership and laments monied opposition.
A Jeffersonian club excursion by special train to Ottawa drew about 150 Democrats led by President Belt and the First Regiment band. Gov. Charles Robinson spoke to a packed opera house. W. D. Kelly urged colored voters to break from Republicans. Col. Moonlight defended pension reforms and urged abolition of present laws. Lawrence Democratic rally featured speeches by Sidney Clarke and others, with strong show of support. Nearby Kansas Publishing house changes announced, Dix Spencer to join S. D. McDonald Jr. in new venture. wedding of Lucy Dix and W. S. Kinnear noted. Conductor J. T. Davis injured in an accident near Leavenworth. Usher Guards announce a series of dances starting November 5 and ongoing through early next year with committees named.
The Democratic Central Committee met at Judge Emery's office to nominate J. M. Shepard of Wakarusa for the state legislature from the 13th district. The Republican press endorses him, praising his candidacy and predicting a strong race for the district seat.
