Mr and Mrs Baldwin, newly joined in marriage, received heartfelt congratulations from friends after their ceremony. They traveled to their home near Club House and will be at home to visitors.
Sheriff Wilkerson cites a letter from J E Lynch in Moberly Mo about Forger Stanley seeking release on bond. Stanley fled to avoid a Moberly warrant for a bogus draft of 1000 on the national bank of St Louis through the Mechanics Savings Bank of Moberly, a crime tied to his Kansas State University education and past crooked conduct. The law class once threatened expulsion over his conduct.
Clarence M. Kemp of Baltimore arrives to arrange a pay gas plant at the Eldridge House. Mr. Meloy opposes high prices and plans to operate his own plant. The system would supply 150 lights and is to be installed at once.
Populists in the county pack the Rink at Popullate as Jerry Simpson speaks. The audience fills every seat, balconies, and outsides, with many unable to gain admission and planning to return for tonight's event. Simpson challenges elites and argues for a ballot powered by an educated public and a free coinage of gold and silver. The article also lists township Democratic and People's Party nominees for Douglas County offices.
A local investment group launched the Germania Land and Loan Company with 310,000 paid in capital. Officers include Tued. Poehler president F. W. Bartelden vice president L. C. The report highlights respected community leaders backing the venture and notes long-standing ties to Kansas and Lawrence.
Yesterday's Historical Seminary heard papers on the Parliament of Religions at Chicago and on Religious Progress and Unity. Miss Haskell described The Meeting at Lawrence in Switzerland seeking unity between the established Church of England and nonconforming churches. Prof Blackmar reviewed the civil church principles and current condition.
The county treasurer report shows total income of 255979.91 with 302.53 from stock sale at the county farm and 3670608 in interest on county money. Interest on Lawrence city bonds and deposits add 2091.18 and 1579.93. County expenses include 52032.23 for general orders and 66275.57 for school. County bonds purchased 7100 at 108 1/8. 20000 in city bonds bought. 43649.25 in sinking funds. 931.04 remains.
