April 1694 Warmest in 27 Years With Light Frost
Apert notes that April 1694, based on University observations, was the warmest in 27 years except for April 1878. Rainfall was light but well distributed, skies clearer, barometer high, wind light. The last spring frost occurred April 22. Mean temperature rose above average by 359 degrees, highs reached 40 degrees, lows at 52.5 degrees, rainfall 3.09 inches with 12 measurable days and 4 thunderstorms. Total rainfall for the first four months of 1894 was 8.06 inches, 9.27 inches below the long-term average.

Coroner's jury returns sealed verdict in infant death case
The coroner's jury, including Geo March Dr O W Murphy H S Clarke O A Fischer I N Van Hoesen and H B Hall, found the unknown female infant found in a Brickley well was born to Maggie Brickley and died by inattention of those present at birth around April 13, 1994. The jury had no evidence of a crime and no warrant for arrest can be issued.

Tragic suicide report in Lawrence leaves family shocked
Louis Peterson a 62 year old Swede residing at 520 Rhode Island street fatally shot himself just before noon Tuesday. He used a double barreled shotgun placed in his mouth and pulled the trigger with his foot, the blast killing him instantly and a tooth lodging in the ceiling. Coroner Dr. Leonard conducted an autopsy and the jury attributed death to self inflicted gunshot wound. Peterson had been despondent since the death of his eldest son Willie, with one son Eddie surviving. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. and he was buried in Oak Hill cemetery.

World’s Bazar at Fraternal Aid hall closes after success
The World’s Bazar at Fraternal Aid hall ended last week after a three night entertainment. Prizes were awarded to Clara Barkley and others for gifts. Jessie Willard, Mable Corse, W H Mays and Lillie Wilson performed in dances songs and sketches. The event was a social and financial success for the Fraternal Aid Association.
