Death of Prof Robinson and local tributes
The death of Prof D H Robison Sunday evening caused shock in the community and beyond. Born June 24, 1837 in Cayuga county New York he studied at Rochester University and joined the Kansas State University faculty at its opening in 1866 with Chancellor Snow, guiding generations of students until his death. He leaves a wife three sons Ernest George David and a daughter Hattie. He was gentle and kind in class church and home life and a Christian scholar whose loss is felt deeply.

Barry Schaum announces the death of Harry L. Schaum after a three week illness. Born in Cincinnati in 1848, he served in Ellsworth Zouaves and later the volunteer service. He moved to Lawrence in 1872, worked in books and wallpaper, then ran his own business, married in 1873, leaving a wife and daughter. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Howland with pallbearers named.

Justus Ausman Dies in Lawrence at 69 After Illness
Justus Ausman a longtime Lawrence resident died Tuesday night at his home at the corner of Lee and Ohio streets after a brief illness. Born in Germany he came to America in 1853 and to Lawrence in 1857. Survived by one daughter Mrs Theo Hansen of Kansas City his wife died last summer. He served 28 years as Tyler of all Masonic lodges in Lawrence and was a devoted Mason. Funeral today will be one of the largest ever held in Lawrence.

Pension of Deserters Denied in 1865 Case
Washington July 20 Assistant Secretary Reynolds denied a pension appeal ruling a deserter has no status to file a claim. Pension dating starts from a new application after discharge. The case involved Charles T Garrard of the Sixth United States Cavalry who deserted October 21, 1865 and was honorably discharged August 1, 1894 by special act of Congress.
