Yesterdays just before noon a fire destroyed much of Dr. Phillips’s home in North Lawrence after poor hose supply and a need to fetch more line. Mrs. Phillips suffered burns while trying to save belongings. library damage estimated at 880 while total loss reaches about 64,000 with no insurance.
A Tuesday morning cutting at Monk's billiard and bowling alley left one employee stabbed in the back and another man cut on the thumb as Jake Lane, a reputed tough, fled. Police have a warrant for Lane but have not captured him.

An examination to determine who shall receive the appointment to West Point will be held in Lawrence on Tuesday December 18. The examining board includes W. C. Jones of Iola Prof. A. S. Olin of the State University and Frank P. Smith of Ottawa. Fifteen applicants are competing and the appointment will be made up to by Congressman Moore according to the board's decision.

The Department of Agriculture reprinted the circular by the Bureau of Animal Industry on Wheat as a Food for Growing and Fattening Animals. It answers frequent questions about using wheat as stock feed and notes wide interest in Kansas and Missouri. The department will mail the circular on request.
Washington November 11 The December farm price indices cover corn rye oats barley buckwheat and hay with per bushel prices ranging from 13.6 cents for corn to 53.2 cents for buckwheat and hay at 8.35 dollars per ton. Year over year changes show corn up 9.1 cents from last year and rye down 1.3 cents while oats barley and buckwheat rise modestly or fall as noted.
