A farmer writes to The Ledger Farmers Page arguing against cooking multiple meals daily and promotes two meals a day, cold suppers, and labor savings from reduced stove use. He notes wood gathering, utensil wear, and the burden on farmers wives, while offering to help readers with advice and selling poultry eggs and farm items.
A reader in town with farm roots writes to the Editor Farmers Page. He relates living in town ten years since marriage and expresses interest in farm articles and country correspondence. He asks if a girl raised on the farm is still part of country girls and seeks reassurance.
Mrs A Barr of Houston Texas reports Jan 31 1902 that one bottle of Ballard’s Horehound Syrup cured a very bad cough. The ad notes exposure to cold air and wind as cough causes and states the syrup is the best cure. Sold by Johnson’s drugstore.
Miss Blanche Curling wed Dr. John T. Hosey in Enterprise with Rev. D. E. B. Waddell of Meridian officiating. Hosey, a Jasper county native, is well regarded. the bride comes from an English family and is praised as pretty and accomplished. Carling Hosey candy shop praised as handling the finest confections in town.
An narrator recalls a wet day in a field where birds struggled and died as their shadows were plowed under. The account links the deaths to the plowing, with later mention of observers finding dead lizards and hawks behind the plow and a claim of proving the tale by a Rev. Steinwinder.
