The Vegas Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce endorsed a proposed pay raise for Las Vegas firefighters set for a November 5 vote. Jaycee President Pat Coward noted tax increases may be needed due to the city’s finances while arguing a raise would boost livable wages and the local economy.

Burt M. Rascom 27 of Henderson fled the Henderson City Jail during booking on traffic charges. He previously faced reckless driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle with bail set at 125 dollars. After the escape charge, total bail rose to 625 dollars. Police say Rascom was later found near Victory Village after a motorcycle crash and high speed driving.
The Nevada Industrial Commission cuts industrial insurance premiums about three percent for about 11 000 Nevada employers. 41 classes lower rates, 11 higher, 16 unchanged. Governor Laxalt praised the NIC for its safety program and noted expected medical and hospital fee hikes in 1969.
First Western Financial Corporation and subsidiaries reported a net loss of 1.454 million dollars for the first nine months of 1968, an improvement over last year's 3.95 million. Per share loss stood at 38 cents versus 1.03 a year ago. The main holding is First Western Savings & Loan Association in the city. Total revenues rose to 11.555 million from 9.781 million. Chairman George D. Webster announced the results.
The Federal Housing Administration reserved 88 770 for 115 rent supplement units in the Rose Garden urban renewal area North Las Vegas. Senators Alan Bible and Howard W Cannon announced the action yesterday. Final approval is pending and a sponsor will be selected within 90 days.
