Michiah Shobek, 20, convicted of killing three American tourists he claimed were angels of Lucifer, faced what was to be his final day on Bahamian death row. Despite last-minute pleas from his mother, U.S. officials, and congressmen, Bahamas officials insisted the execution would proceed at 8 am Tuesday in Fox Hill’s HM Prison.

A sequence of earthquakes shook Chiapas near the Guatemalan border for six hours, destroying 85 houses, injuring 17 and leaving hundreds homeless. Hang Shobek Convicted in Killing of Irwin Bornstein
Hang Shobek was convicted of killing Irwin Bornstein, a New York accountant who arrived in Nassau January 17, 1974, and was found stabbed to death that night on a remote beach. Shobek claimed to have killed Ohio attorney Paul Howell in December 1973 and Katie Smith, a 17 year old Detroit schoolgirl, but the government did not prosecute those two crimes.
