Arab money withdrawals send pound to historic low in London
The pound tumbled to a historic low as Arab oil money withdrawals from Britain disrupted markets. The dollar also fell, though not as sharply, with the pound briefly at 2.0270 dollars before closing near 2.0395. Analysts attribute the move to shifts toward francs and marks and doubt a New York City crisis caused the pullout.
