Surgeon Honored By Peers At Cardiology Convention
SAN FRANCISCO UPI Dr Christiaan N Barnard received a standing ovation from about 3000 heart surgeons at the American College of Cardiology convention ending its 17th year. He noted the profession has shown technical skill in cardiac transplantation but that more must be learned. His second transplant on January 2 in Cape Town saved Phillip Blaiberg, a 54 year old retired dentist, who remains the only surviving patient. Barnard said he is ready for a third transplant but has not chosen a patient.
