Six persons were seriously or moderately injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 93 South near Dalhart Street. Mike Lamb 21 and Lauri Lamb 16 of Tooele Utah were listed in satisfactory condition at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital along with Kathy Williams 19 of Sunrise. Fldon Leroy Beetle 21 of Palmdale was treated for broken legs and released at Nellis Air Force Base. Kenneth Jones 21 and David Shuman 20, both stationed at Lake Mead Naval Base, were treated and released. The Nevada State Highway Patrol said Lamb drove the first vehicle and Shuman rear ended it. Williams and Jones were passengers in the Shuman car. Investigators had not issued citations yet.
U S military says paratroopers killed 21 Viet Cong near Bien Hoa air base and routed another force near Tan Son Nhut. Across three clashes, total Communist deaths reported at least 56 with light Allied casualties. Marines found 45 bodies in Mai Xa, raising total Communist dead to 81 in the area.
U S Bay Stratofortresses bombed near Khe Sanh to deter a North Vietnamese buildup said to involve about 16 000 troops. The round the clock raids targeted artillery bunkers and trenches within 300 yards of the perimeter. Elsewhere eight engined jets struck Viet Cong concentrations 28 miles north of Saigon aiding Army units at Tan Son Nhut and Bien Hoa. The Viet Cong death toll reached 101 after two clashes.
Soviet scientists reported radioactive toxins that attack cancer cells in animals while sparing healthy tissue. Prof. Alexander Kuzin said more animal tests are needed before human trials. toxins showed success in mice and rats by suppressing malignant nodules.
An Arab guerilla bombing west of Jerusalem killed a guard and damaged vehicles, while Cairo and Paris reports cite President Nasser proposing indirect talks with Israel. Lebanon Jordan Saudi Arabia Kuwait Iraq reportedly back the plan. Syria reportedly opposes. A UN spokesman says Arabs may resist sitting with Israel for negotiations.
