Syphilis Cases Drop Nationally in April Report
The CDC said April syphilis cases fell for the 13th straight month with about 20 percent fewer cases than April 1976. Primary and secondary cases totaled 1522, down 37 percent from last April, while early latent cases also declined. Georgia Louisiana and Missouri showed increases.

Fire kills eleven at Osaka company dormitory in predawn blaze
In Osaka a predawn fire at the Yanai Construction Co dormitory killed eleven workers, injured three, and left one missing. The blaze began around 1.20 a.m. in the two story dormitory, spreading to 12 adjoining buildings before controls were established about an hour later.
