New Bid For Ray Freedom With Raoul Picture Emerges

PETROS Tenn UPI The last of six escapees from Brushy Mountain State Prison was recaptured Tuesday but a new bid for Ray freedom surfaced with attorney Jack Kershaw claiming fresh evidence. He presented an alleged excellent photo of the mysterious Raoul who Ray says urged him to buy the gun used to kill Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Kershaw plans a new trial petition after releasing the image. Ray, who escaped Friday night and was found Monday, says he did not kill King and joined what he believed was a smuggling scheme. Warden Stanney Lane said Ray carried 290 dollars and a road map fragment when recaptured and had been earning 35 dollars monthly. He noted Ray likely had no outside help. The last escapee, Douglas Shelton, was captured by dog handler Sammy Joe Chapman.
