Ken Allen of Reno won the Governor post at the annual Nevada Boys State, running as the Federalist candidate against Greg Tolander of Las Vegas. Driver Receives Year in Jail for Fatal Involuntary Manslaughter
A 20 year old North Las Vegas man, Joseph Hestbeck of 2505 Flower Ave, was sentenced to one year in county jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He drove a pickup that jumped the curb near the Desert Inn Hotel and struck a Los Angeles woman on the sidewalk. Judge Howard Babcock handed down the sentence.

Publisher Goes To Court In Arizona Marijuana Charge
George Dewitt French, 23, editor of an underground newspaper, is to be arraigned in Justice Court on charges of publishing matter inciting crimes. He printed an editorial in Las Vegas Changing Times urging commission of a crime involving marijuana. District Attorney George Franklin filed the complaint. He is also charged with selling narcotics in Tucson with a trial set for August 20.

Teacher's suit dismissed by federal judge
Federal judge Roger D. Foley dismissed a suit by former Clark County School District teacher Benjamin Franklin Harrison seeking damages for libel slander breach of contract and back wages. Harrison, who taught adult education at John C. Fremont Junior High, was fired after less than a year of service. The judge ruled the case did not present a federal question and belonged in state court.
